The main industries on the island, other than tourism, include:
Quarrying - white marble is quarried on the island with the massive blocks transported to the mainland daily via the Thassos Town/Keramotti ferry
Olives – there are thousands of olive trees on the island, with processing through local cooperatives to produce olive oil
Beekeeping – bee hives will be seen all over the island, and the sound of the bees at work is very noticeable, with the local produce on sale in many shops
Fishing – local fishermen can be seen processing their catch, and tending their nets at all the harbours (skala’s) around the island
Ouzo – produced by the island cooperative, the local ouzo can be bought in the mini-markets
Wine – Thassos wine was praised by Antidotus in 4 BC “Regale me with Thassian wine, for whatever ails my heart is cured the moment I drink it”. The god Dionysios said “I believe that the Thassian wine that smells of apples is the best of all wines”.
