Thassos Travel

Information on this page falls into two areas – confirmation of what is probably already known for Package Holiday travellers – and then some suggestions for those who prefer to travel independently.

Most people travelling to Thassos from the UK do so as customers of one of the package holiday companies, the biggest operator to Thassos being Thomsons – package holiday flights land at Kavala, with transfers to the island by ferry from Keramotti to Thassos Town, with all costs included in their package price of course.

For those still looking for a packaged holiday to this area, information on which UK Tour Operators provide holidays on Thassos can be found at:

http://www.tourist-offices.org.uk/Greece/UKTO.html

The two most useful search facilities on the tourist-offices site are:

- By Area – Thassos is in Eastern Macedonia
- By Island – simply choose Thassos from the pull down list.

If required there is also a “By Resort” option.

The closest airport to Thassos is Kavala – the alternative is Thessaloniki, which is about 140 kilometers from Kavala. Completion of the journey is then by taxi to a ferry point, and then a ferry, either from Keramoti (the option for car drivers) or Kavala for the Dolphin Hydrofoil.

Finding a flight

There are flight options available from most of the UK’s airports, with both charter and schedule flights to Thessaloniki, and primarily charter flights to Kavala. Prices vary enormously, from one carrier to another, and from one airport to another. Travel dates can also make a big difference, so you have a big advantage if you can be flexible.

The other site worth having a look at is Thomsons Direct, the main and much cursed package holiday supplier for Thassos, but they do offer a Kaval flight only service, and their flight booked direct with them will mostly be cheaper than the same flight booked through a third party.
