Now the winter is upon us it is to reflect on the good days of summer, sunning yourself on the beaches of THASSOS. What better way to while away the evenings with a good meal and a few drinks in a good friendly bar, Wanda & Paul at the RUMOURS Caf’e Bar was a good way to unwind after a very lazy day, lazing on the beach, lovely coktails, friendly holiday makers and most of all EXELLENT Host’s, Wanda & Paul really gets you into a fun evening with one of their funny Quiz nights, these are well worth taking part in (thanks both) a great bar to relax in 10 out of 10.
Kanagio beach was also well worth a mention, as their has been a luxury hand built boat taking shape over the last couple of years (very interesting) the Kanagio bar is also worth a visit day or night, free sun beds and brollies during the day.
There has been some changes to the town, mainly at the new port, but at present nothing has seemed to have spoilt the area. (lets hope it stays that way).
All in all Thassos is still the place for a great relaxed holiday. Cant wait for next summer and our 8th visit, to revisit all our friends on the Island, (especially Wanda & Paul).
Thankyou Thassos for welcoming us to your Island . . .
Now the winter has arrived I start the countdown to the next visit, this will probably be the 11th or 12th time but this will be the first time we have travelled independantly, The flights are booked to Thessaloniki with BA and the accommodation has been booked with Niko, his new hotel on gloden beach, the Enavlion is fantastic, we will probably book the car for the transfer with Potos, I assume that other people from this forum would have done this before and I assume that they just meet you at the airport, any advise on our travel arrangements would be greatly appreciated. I cannot wait for the adventure to start and a lovely three weeks in Golden Beach.
We visited Thasos in September 2006 and stayed at the hotel Illio Mare in Skala Prinou. It was THE BEST! The people, are so warm and friendly we can’t praise them enough.(especially Mimoza and her brother Theo, also the wonderful lady who looked after our room).
This was our first visit to Thasos and, indeed, any Greek Island so we only booked a week but we will know better next time. We hired a car and toured this beautiful Island, it really is a little piece of heaven. The scenery, the sunsets, the sea, the mountains, the beaches – it has it all.
Have lost count of the number of times we have stayed on Thassos. Always Skala Potamia or Golden Beach (once at Skala Rahoni). Pretty much covered all of the island including the summit of Ypsario – favourite places, Aliki and Paradisos (after Skala Potamia and Golden Beach of course). Beautifull Island – we will be back!
Our favourite eating places: Akrogiali – superb food, hospitality second to non, we love the hard working Manoli and his son Kostas whom we have seen grow with the business. We remember Manoli from his days at the Korali, brilliant that he now has is own well established business which appears to be thriving. Also Magic Coast – Maria I think will be married now. A lovely family and always a pleasure to return and although they must see hundreds of tourists always a warm welcome on our return.
Our favourite “watering hole”. Ramezos, the old harbour – Thassos town. Best beers on the island and what a place to sit and watch the World go by. Until next time – Yammas
We have just returned from 7 days in Thassos. Thursday being our last day was spent in Alyki south of the Island with the prettiest beach. It was pouring with rain most of the day but this did not dent our enjoyment of the whole experience sheltering from heavy rain in a beach restaurant called ‘Restaurant Alice’ where we had a tasty meal then as the rain subsided visiting the ancient ruins and walking along the mountain side overlooking exquisite views of the sea and of a marble church ruin – magical!
one of our best holiday destinations is POTOS.
we love the relaxed pace there.
our favourite restaurant is ZOOOM on the main road.
excellent food and wine.
our favourite place through the day is CAFE BAR ANONYM.sat on the promenade drinking eating and reading our books-peaceful.
george and theo are the best.
gordon and sandra x
see you in 2007″
Stayed on Thassos for 2 weeks during September 06, can’t say I thought much of Thassos Island itself, but the people and the food certainly made up for it, especially the Ta Pefka tavern (Hello Elvis), where we were made to feel at home every time we went, I highly recommend it, and the food is superb as well!
For a really romantic Tavern/restaurant nothing beats Vigli at the top of Golden Beach, with its stunning view.
hi pauline sorry we could not make it back I could not get time from work we will see you in may or june 07 we are so disapointed I dream of the big beans I have tried to make them but have to say magic coast make the best good luck and best wishes for your wedding my kind regards to you and every in thassos
For any one that is interested-we’ve just got back from Thassos having stayed in the Anastasia apartments. When we booked I couldnt find anything on these particular apartments so only had verbal recommendation. The apts were at Golden Beach and were simple and clean clean, typically Greek and we would recommend them to any one who is thinking of booking. Also we ended up eating most of the time in Finikas at night – very reasonable and good service. Stephanos next door did a good toastie at lunch time and the homemade walnut pie and icecream was to die for.
If like us, you fancy a good english breakfast while on holiday, try CHEERS, which you will find soon after the taxi rank on the town side of the road, heading towards the old harbour.Peter and his wife (sorry can’t remember your name) will always make you feel welcome. Their breakfasts are superbly cooked, (not swimming in grease) priced very cheaply, the breakfasts are really filling, and come piping hot! I believe you can have your cooked “breakfast” in the evening too, but I’m not certain. Their range of beverages are extensive and also NOT expensive.
